The intervention in question involved the construction of an external casing for the Brescia sports hall called “Ex PalaEib”, now PalaLeonessa.
The new casing is made with a reticular structure in steel tubes in the shape of a parabolic hyperboloid with rhomboid meshes, the cladding is not seismically connected to the existing structure. Approximately 120,000 kg of circular tubes with a diameter of 219 mm and a thickness of 4 mm in S355J0 steel were used to create the reticular structure, appropriately shaped with a laser tube and pre-assembled in the workshop.
In order to guarantee optimal performance in terms of resistance to corrosive agents, the entire structure was treated with a “Triplex” protection cycle which involves hot-dip galvanizing the product and final powder coating, after treatment with nano-ceramics.
The function of the reticular is purely aesthetic, and gives a modern and urban connotation to the structure, always ensuring its intelligibility as the external facades of the building unit are still clearly visible.
The construction is completed by the supply of No. 11 external staircases in metal carpentry with steps and landings in prefabricated reinforced concrete slabs, these structures are arranged radially and each has been painted with a different color in order to visually organize the inflow and outflow of spectators to the structure.
