Project Description
Road bridge over the Stirone Stream (Provincial Road S.P. 12), connecting the town center of Soragna with the Castellina area, replacing the existing deteriorated reinforced concrete bridge.
Structural Characteristics
The structure, entirely fabricated in weathering steel (Corten), has overall dimensions of 43 m × 13.86 m and a height of 9 m. The bridge adopts an arch configuration with an orthotropic deck and cable hangers.
Fabrication Process
All structural steel components were manufactured starting from flat steel plates, which were cut and drilled according to design specifications, and subsequently welded into transportable sections at our workshop.
The arches, with a diameter of 800 mm and thicknesses of 16 mm and 20 mm, were produced by rolling flat plates into cylindrical shells (viroles) and welded using submerged arc welding.
Assembly and Installation
The bridge was assembled in a staging area adjacent to the final installation site. All elements were positioned and welded on-site, with welds extensively inspected through non-destructive testing (visual, magnetic particle, and ultrasonic methods).
The completed bridge was then transported to its final position using SPMT modular trailers, slid into place on skidding systems, and lifted simultaneously with the assistance of three mobile cranes with capacities of 500, 250, and 130 tonnes.
