Project Description

The pedestrian and cycle bridge, developed as part of the Oglio Greenway – Lot 8, extends for approximately 200 meters, of which 81 meters consist of a fully suspended steel structure designed to span the Oglio River.

The suspended section is characterized by a cable-stayed system composed of two pylons made of S355J2 steel, constructed from circular hollow sections with a diameter of 406 mm. The pylons, arranged in an A-frame configuration, serve as anchorage points for the stay cable pairs supporting the deck, as well as for the rear stabilizing tie rods with a diameter of 65 mm. To ensure maximum corrosion resistance in a river environment, the pylons are protected by hot-dip galvanizing in accordance with UNI EN ISO 1461:2009, followed by a protective coating system.

The suspended deck is entirely made of S355J2W weathering steel (Corten), with primary beams of type IPE 600, integrated with secondary members and horizontal bracing systems to ensure overall stiffness, torsional stability, and proper load distribution. The connection to the stay cables is achieved through heavy plate brackets, specifically designed to transfer the localized forces induced by the suspension system.

The remaining section of the bridge consists of a concrete deck with prefabricated π-shaped beams, ensuring geometric and functional continuity with the steel portion and an effective connection to the existing infrastructure.

The structure is completed with AISI 304 stainless steel railings fitted with diamond-pattern safety mesh, and WPC decking installed on an aluminum substructure, providing durability, safety, and reduced maintenance requirements.

Conclusion

The bridge represents a strategic element of the pedestrian and cycling network along the Oglio River, combining structural efficiency, construction quality, and seamless landscape integration.
